History
In 1962
S. H. Anderson introduced the first hydraulic demonstration channel
while a Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota's St.
Anthony Falls Hydraulics Laboratory. While teaching, he recognized
the need for quality laboratory equipment which would demonstrate
the basics of civil engineering hydraulics and provide the student
with a springboard for more in depth investigations. To facilitate
the manufacture of this equipment, he established Hydraulic Design
& Products Co. from his residence in a Minneapolis suburb.
The product line soon expanded to include other proprietary design
student laboratory apparatus and related equipment for aeronautical,
chemical, civil and mechanical engineering institutions. To reflect
these changes the company was renamed and incorporated in 1966 under
the name Engineering Laboratory Design. The first wind tunnel was
manufactured in 1968 and the first water tunnel in 1986.
In 1972 ELD moved from our original facility in Golden Valley, Minnesota
to our present location. While the original product line continues,
the company has developed additional educational and research apparatus
and contracted larger, custom designed, laboratory projects for
institutions in the U.S.A and overseas, thus expanding ELD's manufacturing
capabilities, products, and services worldwide. ELD Inc. is currently
owned by Sigurd W. Anderson, Gordon K.Anderson, and Kurt A. Banaszynski.
What
we do
We are
a recognized industry leader in the design and manufacture of custom
and standard fluid dynamics equipment including: wind tunnels, water
tunnels, hydraulic demonstration and sediment channels and AMCA/ASHRAE
fan test apparatus. We supply turn-key equipment installations for
research and educational institutions and manufacturing industry
worldwide.
What
makes us special
35 years of experience in supplying educational and research engineering
laboratory apparatus.
Reputation for high quality research equipment.
Responsive to individual customer requirements and ability
to supply cost conscious solutions, delivered on a timely basis.
Extensive in house manufacturing capabilities with broad
experience in composite lamination.
Customer service and support. We are still providing service
assistance to customers who purchased equipment 35 years ago.
Engineering
Resources
Our engineering
staff is comprised of engineers with degrees in aerospace and mechanical
fields and extensive experience in civil engineering hydraulics.
We are experienced in fluid mechanics, composites and traditional
structures, mechanisms, hydraulics, pneumatics, instrumentation
and data acquisition, electrical controls and various molding methods.
Computer aided design is used to accelerate the design process and
analysis of simple and complex projects. Our engineers are involved
in all stages of product development, from initial concept, through
design, manufacturing and installation. This hands on approach allows
our designs to continually evolve whereby simplifying the manufacturing
process and reducing costs.
Manufacturing
Resources
ELD's
manufacturing expertise covers a wide variety of materials, methods
and techniques. Our manufacturing capabilities include construction
of wood and composite molds and tooling, precision machining, sheet
metal forming, MIG and TIG welding and electrical assemblies. We
are experienced in precision molding of fiberglass shapes including
PVC foam sandwich construction and carbon fiber reinforcements.
Our skilled craftsmen are cross-trained in all work centers which
allows for greater efficiency and flexibility.
Quality
Product
Quality
is our first concern. At ELD quality is a core discipline which
transcends through all company procedures from initial customer
contact to design, manufacture, installation and after sale support.
Quality is a philosophy to which all employees subscribe.
Computer
Resources
A PC
based hardware and software platform is used to augment both our
engineering and manufacturing capabilities. AutoCad 2000, is used
as our CAD software, and is the core component in our design process.
Information can be shared electronically with customers and vendors
through dxf, dwg and iges file formats.
